1994-1998 Dance Migration Series and related drawings

Paintings as performance, dancing on canvas, footprints in paint. Becoming dancer while observing my movement, inside the condition of the canvas as site, documenting and embodiment become one activity over a brief duration.  Drawings in watercolor, ink, and graphite on paper overlay erasure, migration, and ritual at indigenous  and colonial sites of power on Turtle Island in the west. As an outsider, I drew  with respect for the hospitality of native dancers, who allowed me to be present outside of ceremony.
